  1. Hi guys, it's me, Joe B here's my stuff 1st post lol :

1.Studies of the Iceman's innards revealed a surprising variety of mosses, from different climate regimes suggesting that Otzi was a local man and traveled the Alpine region widely.

2.Otzi had approximately 57 carbon tattoos consisting of simple dots and lines on his lower spine, behind his left knee, and on his right ankle. Using X-ray's, it was determined that Otzi may have had arthritis in these joints. It has been speculated that they may have been related to acupuncture.

3.Initially it had been believed that Otzi died from exposure to a winter storm. Later it was speculated that he may have been a victim of a ritual sacrifice, perhaps for being a chieftain.

  3. Hi guy's it's me Joe B lol 1st post rofl

Initially it had been believed that Ötzi died from exposure during a winter storm. Later it was speculated that Ötzi may have been a victim of a ritual sacrifice, perhaps for being a chieftain.

Ötzi apparently had whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), an intestinal parasite. During CT scans, it was observed that three or four of his right ribs had been squashed when he had been lying face down after death, or where the ice had crushed his body.

When the Iceman's mitochondrial DNA was analyzed by Franco Rollo and his colleagues,[25] it was discovered that he had genetic markers associated with reduced fertility. It has been speculated that this may have affected his social acceptance.

1)Ötzi the Ice Man was found near Hauslabjoch in the Ötzal Alps in September 1991 by two walkers. The Ice Man died approximately 5200 years ago. At death he was between 40 and 50 years old and suffered from a number of medical conditions. He turned into a mummy accidentally almost immediately by the freezing weather conditions that turned him into the Ice Man. Scientists believe that Ötzi was caught in a heavy snowfall, fell asleep, and froze to death. Scientists have concluded this because there were no signs of predator attacks. They believe that the body must have been covered with snow almost immediately.

3)The first clues to how old the Ice Man was came from many of the tools and objects found with him. The stone ax and stone knife found with him were similar to other stone tools found elsewhere and which are thousands of years old.

  10. Isotopic 'fingerprint'
Biominerals from the diet are deposited in the body at different times - in the teeth, for example, during childhood, and in the bones in adult life.
This allowed researchers in Australia, the United States and Switzerland to deduce where Oetzi lived at various stages of his life.
The team believes his movements were restricted to a few valleys within 60 kilometres south-east of where his body was discovered.
He never moved north of this point and probably grew up in the Eisack valley, in the southern Tyrol.
Several ancient archaeological sites in and around this region have been identified.
The scientists think Feldthurns is the iceman's most likely childhood home: excavations have revealed a standing stone dating back to the Copper Age.
    Migration patterns
Later on in life, he moved further north to the mountains of lower Vinschgau, before travelling to the Otz valley where he met his death at the age of 46. Dr Alexander Halliday of the Department of Earth Sciences at RTH Zurich told BBC News Online: "This is the first time that anyone has made a comprehensive study of the migration of a human in the past.
"It looks like he lived much of his life in a different valley from where he was born.
"The impression one gets is that the Alpine valleys in that particular area were fairly well-inhabited."
The research is consistent with the iceman spending his childhood in the southern Alpine valleys before migrating further north in adulthood.
Alternatively, he could have spent his summers up in the mountains and moved down to the valleys in the winter.
This is a pattern of seasonal migration that started in the Middle Neolithic period and is still practiced today.

  20. "MIGRATION IS THE BEST" haha. Well done "Anonymous" who took two posts to figure out how to put his "eng" (without a capital E) as the author!

After this chapter, maybe Diana will agree. Or maybe she won't. And neither of you will be 100% right or wrong.

Let's be able to have class discussions and debates without losing our cool OK? Listening and appreciating someone else's point of view as important a skill as speaking and presenting your own.
